Zirconium is a popular aesthetic coating application today. Essentially, zirconium is a very hard element. However, we use zirconium oxide, which is the aesthetic form, in clinical practice.
Compared to traditional metal-supported porcelain, zirconiums help us achieve more aesthetic results. Especially in anterior region aesthetic applications, zirconium is preferred because it transmits light and does not reflect under the gingiva.
In addition to these, zirconium is preferred because it is a biocompatible and tissue-friendly material, and it prevents the sensitivity of the underlying tooth by minimizing heat conduction compared to metal-supported porcelain.
